Mardin

Start the day with a visit to Mardin, a city known for its charming old Arabic-style houses, many of which are adorned with intricate carvings. Mardin is a bustling trading hub where people from surrounding villages come to buy and sell. From the city, enjoy a stunning view of the Mesopotamian plains. Mardin also holds historical significance in early Christianity. We will visit the Monastery of Deyr-az-Zaferan, established in 762 A.D. This monastery served as the seat of the Syrian Orthodox Patriarch for nearly 800 years. We will then drive to Hasankeyf, making a stop at Midyat, a picturesque town where you can explore its ancient houses and monasteries. Hasankeyf, with a history spanning nine civilizations, dates back 10,000 years, predating landmarks like the Giza pyramids and Stonehenge. If the Ilısu Dam construction continues, many of Hasankeyf’s historical treasures, including mosques, tombs, and cave churches, may be submerged. Evening flight back to Istanbul End of our services
